A pack of menstrual pads/Tampons is equivalent to 4 plastic bags. Most of us have grown accustomed to the conventional ways of managing our period: pads and tampons.
However, in recent years, companies have been creating category innovations, and we are quite excited about the healthier and more sustainable options! Today, there are several environmentally friendly period products available such as reusable pads, period underwear.
Reusable pads are way more hygienic than plastic-based sanitary pads. Most disposable pads have chemicals and pesticides in them, which causes irritation to the skin ultimately leading to rashes and infections. Compared to that, reusable cloth pads actually pose fewer risks for allergies and infections.
Our Bamboo Sanitary Pads are made from a unique combination of bamboo charcoal, cotton, and ultra-absorbent fibers to create the most comfortable, secure, and easy to clean cloth pad on market. A natural fit that’s at home against even the most sensitive skin, all day long. They are perfect for Menstrual Periods, Bladder leakage, Post-partum, and Urinary Incontinence.
Super Absorbent And Waterproof—They feature a unique 4 part construction that pulls moisture away from the skin and into the absorbent layers beneath the bamboo, leaving you feeling dry and allowing your skin to breathe.
Fold the pad over itself and snap it shut with the buttons, you can choose to rinse before or not (depending on your location/circumstances) and insert it into the wet bag. Folding the pads this way and also using our wet bag will ENSURE there are no leaks or smells.
Bamboo Charcoal - The bamboo is broken down to its fiber form, charcoal is then infused and woven into the bamboo fibers to create the ultimate odor-absorbing blend. Bamboo can be recycled.
Micro Fibre - Our microfibre is made from RPET, a material that is made from recycled plastic bottles and is becoming extremely popular due to its many uses. This material can also be recycled.
Are these for menstrual flow or incontinence? - Both.
Will it leak? - The chances of leakage are almost NIL. These pads are super absorbent and can last for a whole day.
Do they work for heavy periods? - Yes. On average, we only have a maximum flow of about 200 ml in half a day. However, these pads are super absorbent and each pad can hold a minimum of 400 ml of blood or urine.
How do they attach to your panties? - There's a snap button on the bottom. It is easy to open and close. Mine have never slipped. Used 2+ years now, zero adjustment problems.
Are they hygienic? / Infections or any other risks? - Yes, reusable pads are way more hygienic than plastic-based sanitary pads. Most disposable pads have chemicals and pesticides in them, which causes irritation to the skin ultimately leading to rashes and infections. Compared to that, reusable cloth pads actually pose fewer risks for allergies and infections.
Which size to use? - It depends on your flow. If the flow is heavy, we recommend you to choose "L".
Where are your pads made? - Our pads have been cut and sewn at the same locally-owned and operated the factory for over 25 years, right here in Vancouver, BC.
Are your pads FDA compliant? - Our products have been registered with the FDA since 2001.
And perhaps it is more relevant today to think about the impact our periods have on the environment than ever before.
The average user throws away an astonishing 125 to 150kg of tampons, pads, and applicators in their lifetime. Plastic waste ends up in a landfill or, even worse in the oceans, rivers, and beaches. Multiply that number by everyone on this planet that gets his or her period and that equals a substantial amount of waste. In the US alone 12 billion pads and 7 million tampons pollute landfills annually. In 2010, a UK beach clean found an average of 23 sanitary pads and 9 tampon applicators per kilometer of the British coastline.
Most tampons contain chemicals such as dioxin, chlorine, and rayon. While the products sit in landfills, these chemicals get soaked up by the earth and are released as pollution into groundwater and the air.
We don’t think any of the above substances should get anywhere near the most sensitive area of our body. But, if not for your health, perhaps you should consider switching to a more eco-friendly period product for the environment’s sake.
